Overview

A Senior Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting and financial functions supporting the Accounting/Finance departments. This role plays a key part in financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and compliance processes. All tasks require a high degree of confidentiality and accuracy.

Responsibilities
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation for all balance sheet accounts across all entities.
  • Complete monthly financial statement close activities in accordance with established closing schedules.
  • Analyze financial data to support strategic decision-making, cost reduction, and revenue enhancement.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to audits, cost reporting, and tax filings; ensure all audit, cost report, and tax return requirements are completed by established deadlines.
  • Participate in the annual fiscal budget process and ongoing financial projections throughout the fiscal year, including:
    • Utilizing budget software to create budgets and forecasts
    • Providing detailed financial analysis
    • Projecting future results
    • Converting budget data into the general ledger system
  • Collaborate with operations leaders, program directors, and other departments to align financial processes with organizational goals.
  • Take the lead in coordinating the accounts payable month-end closing process, including resolving accounting issues and supporting Business Office personnel.
  • Maintain and support accounting systems and financial reporting tools.
  • Support departments and staff with financial processes, procedures, and inquiries.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required with a minimum of six (6) years of relevant healthcare accounting experience.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities and the capacity to exercise sound and logical judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of financial systems, including general ledger, GAAP, financial statement presentation, budgeting, payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with expertise in the use of spreadsheets and other software programs to maximize efficiency.
  • Experience with Sage or similar accounting systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with software tools used to identify and analyze quality indicators, measure variables, and highlight financial trends is expected.
  • Experience with AI tools to automate reconciliations, detect anomalies, and generate predictive financial insights is a plus.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of regulations governing the long-term care industry, including Medicare, Medicaid, and HUD.
