Senior Accountant

Metals USA is seeking a Senior Accountant located in Langhorne PA. Metals USA is a solid, growth oriented, carbon steel (plate, beam) distribution center servicing the defense, commercial, construction, aerospace and fabrication industries.

The Senior Accountant is responsible to maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Senior Accountant's position encompasses a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting and year‑end audit preparation and fixed assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates accounting operational functions to include: payroll processing, production costs, purchases, import and export, freight, accounts payable & receivable, shipping, documentation, submission of inventory, accuracy and validity of inventory.
  • Obtains accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits and budgets.
  • Prepares journal entries and account reconciliation for month/quarter/year end close.
  • Prepare and distributes month end reports for multiple companies. Maintains fixed assets for multiple regions within the corporate software program.
  • Monitors and analyzes processes and procedures to develop more efficient use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Assists the activities of the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable/receivables, cash control, payroll processing and tax compliance and reconciliation of employee expense reports.
  • Coordinates the activities of the accounting department to ensure accurate and timely management of all accounts receivables aging components including billings and cash receipt applications.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies /reporting to include Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX), US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), tax, and contracts.
  • Provides technical financial advice and assistance routinely to other departments within the organization.
  • Performs routine internal audits within the organization to ensure adherence of acceptable accounting practices. Coordinates documentation and preparation for annual internal and financial audits.
  • Performs, documents and maintains adequate and effective internal controls to include, but not limited to employee system access review, segregation of duties review & compliance.
  • Performs, documents and maintains adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Performs current cost roll‑up and standard cost updates monthly, quarterly and annually.
  • Participates in internal audits with corporate auditors; provides the required selection documentation as requested, and responses effectively to all inquiries.
  • Obtains and maintains a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Prepares the monthly valuation schedule and reconciles the general ledger; investigates and reports on inventory adjustments and completes inventory account reconciliations monthly.
  • Ensures an accurate and timely, monthly, quarterly and year‑end close.
  • Collaborates with the Controller and Accounting Managers to support the overall financial goals and objectives.
  • Monitors department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining high level of accuracy.
  • Advises Controller and Accounting Manager of non‑routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to all inquiries from the Controller and Accounting Manager regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Maintains accounts payable system records including but not limited to: reconciliation of freight bills, cash reconciliation, inter‑company reconciliation and sales tax.
  • Maintains all accounts receivable system records including but not limited to: application of cash receipts, resolution of short payments and billing problems, credit memos, resolution of back discrepancies regarding electronic and credit card payments.
  • Assists with special projects within the Accounting Department to include capital expense budgeting.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required to perform the duties of an Accountant.
  • Adheres to Reliance's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

Occupation requires being sedentary less than or equal to 75% of the time ( to 6 hours per day).

  • Stand, walk, sit, hearing, talking, use of hands and fingers, hand‑eye coordination, reach outward, reach above shoulder, climb, squat or kneel or bend
  • Regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions
