Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Accountant in Indianapolis, IN to manage month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting. You will analyze AR aging, resolve discrepancies, and support SOX controls while partnering with Finance, Billing, and Operations.

The role requires 3+ years of accounting experience, a Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, and advanced Excel skills. CPA is a plus; US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

  • Good working knowledge of US GAAP accounting.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables.
  • Working knowledge of General Ledger Systems such as Workday preferred but not required.
  • Insurance experience is a plus.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Research and resolve reconciling items.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and properly documented.
  • Analyze accounts receivable balances and aging trends.
  • Investigate unapplied cash, aged balances, and customer account discrepancies.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to resolve complex receivable-related matters.
  • Monitor and support cash application and reconciliation activities.
  • Support accounting for premiums, commissions, ceded activity, and other insurance-related transactions.
  • Assist with operational accounting activities related to programs, settlements, and other complex transactions.
  • Prepare audit-ready schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Respond to internal and external audit requests.
  • Assist with SOX, control, and compliance-related activities.
  • Maintain documentation supporting key accounting processes and controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and reduce manual effort.
  • Assist in developing standardized procedures and documentation.
  • Participate in system implementations, process enhancements, and special projects.
  • Leverage Excel and reporting tools to automate recurring tasks and analyses.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, Billing, Claims, and other functional teams.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff when appropriate.
  • Contribute to accountability, continuous improvement, and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
