Jobtailor in Buffalo, NY is hiring a Staff Accountant to support monthly and annual closes, GAAP compliance, and audit readiness. You will maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and assist management with financial statements and reconciliations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an additional four (4) years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience in accounting required.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge and experience of general ledger systems, Excel, spreadsheets, and PC/Windows skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to identify problems and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly and annual financial reports and support audit schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger system.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries with appropriate documentation.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly, quarterly, and annual schedules for audit and management.
  • Perform analytical procedures.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Review accounts payable invoices for accurate general ledger coding as needed.
  • Maintain departmental financial spreadsheets and spreadsheet controls.
  • Support accounting management with data classification, handling procedures, and accounting pronouncement research.
  • Prepare monthly account and bank reconciliations.
  • Complete standard monthly reports and tasks by scheduled dates.
  • Investigate and resolve month-end differences.
  • Provide backup to Finance team functions including AR, AP, and Cash Management.
  • Coordinate information flow with senior accountants, managers, and other departments.
  • Recommend and develop efficiency and process improvements.
  • Support strategic initiatives and information requests from other departments.
  • Participate in departmental teams and task groups.
  • Update and review departmental procedure documentation.
  • Present information clearly and produce timely financial information for management, auditors, and external federal and state agencies.

Job description
