Job summary

A large food-grade logistics company in Houston is seeking a Senior Accountant to manage financial operations. The Senior Accountant at McLane Global must have solid knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The role requires at least four years of relevant experience and a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. This position is very hands‑on working within a growing small team of accountants and clerks.

Role Responsibilities

• Active hands‑on participation in Month‑end closing procedures, including preparing journal entries, prepayments and accruals
• General ledger accounts review and reconciliations
• Assist in oversight of Vendor invoices and payment processing
• Assist in oversight of Customer receivables and cash reconciliation process
• Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial statements
• Support the Accounting Manager in communicating financial results to the business unit leaders
• Assist in coordinating activities of external auditors
• Research and respond to accounting questions to assist management with information pertinent to decision‑making processes
• Assist in the budget process
• Actively access current accounting operations and systems utilization, offering recommendations for improvement, and implementing new processes
• Work closely with the Accounting Manager to evaluate and improve accounting and internal controls
• Other duties assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3‑4+ years of prior accounting experience, including industry experience working within a team environment
• Masters or Certified Public Accountant is a plus but not required
• Microsoft Dynamics 365 experience is a plus but not required
• Ability to prioritize and multitask
• Eye for detail. Accuracy is imperative
• Excellent analytical skills with a focus on control process assessment
• Strong organization and time management skills
• Ability to be an effective team member and display initiative
• Driven to learn and grow professionally
• Advanced knowledge of Excel
• A positive, energetic attitude with a servant leader mentality
