  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and annual audit/tax filings.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide recommendations for financial stability.
  • Develop budgets/forecasts using historical data (3 years).
  • Assist with the transition to a new database management system and ensure data integrity.

Role Description

The Senior Accountant is a full-time hybrid role based in Highland Park, IL, with some flexibility for work from home. This role is responsible for managing general ledger activities, preparing and reviewing journal entries, and reconciling accounts to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, assist with budgeting and forecasting, and support the annual audit and tax processes. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring accounts payable and receivable, reviewing expense reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and identifying opportunities to improve financial processes. The individual will collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to provide financial analysis, support decision-making, and maintain documentation for regulatory and organizational requirements.

Responsibility:

This individual will be responsible for financial reporting, assist with budgeting, assist with audit and other tasks assigned by management.Will also perform daily accounting tasks.

Full Time position 8 am – 4:30 pm

Working in office 2 days per week, remote the remainder of the week

Expected travel: Infrequent

Salary Range

$83k-$90k

Reporting Relationship:

Reports directly to the CEO through the Director of Finance

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reconcile all Balance Sheet accounts monthly to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Process all Journal Entries monthly/as needed including payroll, depreciation, reclass, and others as requested by management.
  • Review and analyze monthly Profit & Loss by class identifying variances, accrue for missing bills correcting discrepancies.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with non-profit accounting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and provide financial reports, monthly, quarterly as requested by the management or the board of directors.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide recommendations to ensure the financial stability of the organization.
  • Develop and analyze annual budgets and forecasts, based on historical data (3 years), providing financial guidance to leadership.
  • Prepare information for the annual audit, annual financial report and 990 filing process, including deferred revenue adjustments and supporting audit requests.
  • Maintain current level of accuracy while transitioning to new database management system, ensuring data integrity during the migration process.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Have knowledge of accounting best practices and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and on a team, prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient with Acrobat Adobe Pro and Microsoft Word, Excel (V Lookup, Pivot Tables, etc.), Outlook, Teams, SharePoint.
  • Must be proficient with QuickBooks Online
  • Able to design and work with complicated spreadsheet applications with large quantity of data with accuracy.
  • In-depth knowledge of non-profit accounting standards (e.g., GAAP for non-profits, IRS regulation for 501(c)(6) and 501(c)(3)
  • Desired: Experience with Concur and Bill.Com
  • A professional work ethic with respectful, discrete, and positive attitude is an absolute must
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience and Education:
  • 3-5 years in similar accounting role, with at least 2 years working with non-profit organizations, or experience with non-profit tax laws and compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
