Job summary

Bell & Associates, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Senior Accountant to join our finance team in Hazelwood, MO.

This role oversees general ledger maintenance, month-end close, financial reporting, and account reconciliations, partnering with leadership to ensure accurate, timely data. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency with ERP systems such as QuickBooks or SAP.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with public accounting or auditing.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and update the general ledger.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Account Reconciliations: Perform detailed reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Lead or support close processes.
  • Internal Controls: Assist in implementing internal controls and policies.
  • Tax Compliance: Support tax returns preparation.
  • Sales Tax Reporting: File state sales tax returns.
  • Audit Support: Provide documentation for audits.
  • Journal Entries: Prepare and post accruals and reclassifications.
  • Financial Analysis: Assist with variance analysis and budgeting/forecasting.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with accounting and other departments.
  • Payroll/HR functions: Manage payroll and HR tasks as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Suggest improvements to accounting processes.

Position Overview:

We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing key aspects of the company’s financial operations, including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, month-end and year-end closing, and account reconciliations. This role will work closely with both senior leadership and the accounting team to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • General Ledger Management: Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring that all transactions are accurately recorded in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Review financial reports for accuracy and assist in the preparation of management reports.
  • Account Reconciliations: Perform detailed account reconciliations, ensuring that all balances are in line with expectations and resolving discrepancies as necessary.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Lead or support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all financial statements are finalized and ready for review within set deadlines.
  • Internal Controls: Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies to ensure compliance with regulations and safeguard company assets.
  • Tax Compliance: Support the preparation of tax returns (corporate, sales, etc.), ensuring timely and accurate filing in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Sales Tax Reporting: Calculate and file state sales tax returns as required.
  • Audit Support: Provide necessary documentation and assistance during external audits, ensuring a smooth audit process and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Journal Entries: Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, reclassifications, and other financial adjustments as needed.
  • Financial Analysis: Assist with variance analysis and support management in budgeting and forecasting activities. Provide insights on financial performance to improve decision-making.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the accounting team and various departments to ensure accurate financial data and resolution of financial issues.
  • Payroll/HR functions: Manage the payroll process and other HR functions as needed.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably with experience in public accounting-auditing.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Preferred Skills:
  • CPA designation (or in-progress) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with tax compliance and audit processes.
  • Ability to identify process inefficiencies and suggest improvements.
