Job summary

Phaxis, a leading privately held real estate investment and development firm in Chicago, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its development accounting team. You will oversee accounting for assigned development projects and partner with construction, development, finance, tax, and legal teams.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Accounting and 5+ years of accounting experience, with strong GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel, and experience with JD Edwards, Textura, e-Builder, or similar systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or construction.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting and financial reporting for assigned development projects.
• Prepare and review contractor payment applications, including G702/G703.
• Oversee vendor and contract processing through Textura.
• Reconcile project costs in e-Builder to the general ledger.
• Process and review invoices, change orders, accruals, and journal entries.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, workpapers, and project reporting.
• Coordinate project funding and disbursements through title companies.
• Perform project profitability and financial analysis; support consolidated reporting, forecasting, and audits.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Mentor junior accounting team members and collaborate with senior management.
