Job summary

Marolina Outdoor seeks a Senior Accountant to maintain accurate financial records and support day-to-day accounting operations in Charleston, SC. The role oversees the general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, AP/AR, and related processes to ensure data integrity and compliance.

The candidate will manage monthly closings, assist auditors, and liaise with tax authorities while leveraging accounting software and MS Office. A solid understanding of GAAP and cost accounting is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• At least three years of related accounting experience.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records and supporting the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations. This role oversees key accounting activities, including general ledger management, reconciliations, financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, and other financial processes. The Senior Accountant plays an important role in ensuring the integrity of financial data and supporting the organization’s financial planning, reporting, and compliance needs.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Performs general cost accounting and other related duties for the organization.
• Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
• Maintains the general ledger.
• Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
• Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
• Reconciles cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages prepaid accounts and prepaid account amortization.
• Verifies and/or completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
• Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
• Files tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
• Calculates and reconciles commission liability and payments.
• Calculates and reconciles royalty liability and payments.
• Manages and reconciles sales tax liability. Primary contact with Avalara, the Company’s 3rd party sales/use tax service and state and local sales tax authorities.
• Primary responsibility of maintenance and reconciliation of Company Property, Plant, and Equipment records.
• Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
• Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
• Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
• Experience in retail is a plus
• Fixed asset experience is a plus

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, required.
• At least three years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
