Job summary

Job description

Overseeing general ledger accounts, including recording journal entries and performing timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations, as well as management of certain balance sheet areas (i.e. fixed assets and accrued liabilities).

Mentoring, training, and supervising junior accounting staff and providing guidance on complex accounting issues.

Maintaining accurate financial records and documentation for audit purposes.

Assisting with month-end and year-end closing processes.

Assisting in audits and providing supporting documentation.

Identifying and recommending process improvements to enhance the efficiency of reconciliation activities.

Ensuring adherence to GAAP principles and other regulations, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external auditors, and helping to resolve audit findings.

Conducting detailed financial and variance analysis, monitoring financial performance, and providing insights to support strategic business decisions.

Developing and implementing new or improved accounting systems, processes, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Preparation of various sales tax returns.

Assisting with the development of budgets and financial forecasts, and monitoring expenditures and budget variances.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Experience & Education: 5+ years of relevant work experience (public accounting firm and/or corporate environment) with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite (with advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and VLOOKUP), and reconciliation software.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving: Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify patterns or discrepancies, and resolve complex issues effectively.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and meticulousness to ensure integrity of financial records.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams, external auditors, and financial institutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain clear, well-organized documentation.
  • Adaptability & Pressure Management: Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining high standards of work.
  • Knowledge of Regulations: Solid understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.
