Job summary

PeopleAdmin, Inc. seeks an experienced accountant to develop and maintain accounting procedures and systems. You will prepare journal entries, reconcile ledgers, and provide analytical support to senior management.

The role requires a Bachelor's in accounting, 3+ years of professional experience (Big Four preferred), and GAAP knowledge; CPA desired. Based in California, the position may require occasional extra hours to meet deadlines.

Job description

Responsible for or assists with the development of procedures, administration, and maintenance of one or a combination of accounting systems. Prepares journal entries, provides analysis and reconciles general ledger accounts complex and high-risk areas such as, but not limited to investments and property. Re-engineers processes and incorporates automation to maximize efficiency. Provides high level of general support and analysis to the department.

Designs, systematizes, implements, and maintains systems to provide visibility, control, and compliance with company policy, government regulations, and to minimize manual recording effort.

Performs complex accounting transactions, and prepares financial/accounting analyses, schedules, statements, reconciliations and reports.

Provides information and assistance to external departments, such as labs and the Office of Sponsored Programs, as required.

Prepares schedules and completes forms for tax filings in accordance with county and state regulations.

Provides analytical assistance to other staff and senior management as requested.

Prepares audit schedules, researches historical accounting data and provides analytical data to assist auditors as appropriate.

Reconciles general ledger asset and liability accounts and complex revenue and expense activity.

Prepares journal entries to record transactions into financial accounting system and makes necessary corrections.

Prepares billing information to or from affiliated organizations and between divisions.

Prepares budget projections for revenue and expense relating to annual and periodic forecasts.

Provides accounting assistance and support to other Finance staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

This position works in a typical office environment. With or without reasonable accommodation, employees in this position must be able to sit and type at a computer terminal for up to 8 hours per day with appropriate breaks and perform tasks that require fine dexterity and repetitive motions using the arms, hands, wrists and fingers. Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor degree, preferably in accounting or business, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Minimum three years progressively responsible and related professional level experience, to include at least two years of public accounting, preferably at a “big four” firm; OR at least five years related professional level experience with accounting principles and systems.

CPA license highly desired.

Experience reading and interpreting contracts, analyzing issues, defining problems, processing transactions in a timely and consistent manner, and adhering to generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ).

Experience working with general ledger systems, to include journal entries, queries and reports.

The ability to work independently and with general or limited supervision..

Flexibility and ability to switch quickly from one project to another when dictated by business need.

A willingness to put forth additional effort and work extra hours, when critical projects arise, is important.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to select appropriate means of communication in a given situation.
