Senior Accountant / Assistant to Controller
Position Summary
This role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization's financial records while supporting month end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role works closely with leadership and cross-functional departments to provide financial analysis, improve processes, and support business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Perform detailed balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations.
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances to budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Review and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and procedures.
- Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation schedules, and asset tracking.
- Support cash management activities, including bank reconciliations.
- Partner with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting best practices.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc financial analyses as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage, SAP or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Experience
- Public accounting experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in manufacturing, real estate, construction, or corporate accounting environments.
- Experience preparing financial statements and supporting audits.
