Rochester General Hospital is seeking an experienced Senior Access Associate to support the Department of Surgery. You will interview patients or their representatives to collect required registration data, verify insurance eligibility, and coordinate precertifications or authorizations when needed.

You will also guide patients through financial assistance options, collect co-payments, and provide timely information to internal teams.

Qualifications

  • GED or High School Diploma required.
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • 3 years related healthcare or customer service experience preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities considered a plus.
  • Basic computer skills and strong communication are highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Interview patients or representatives to collect registration data.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and obtain precertifications/authorizations when applicable.
  • Process co-payments and financial data with accuracy and care.
  • Provide guidance to patients about financial assistance and payment options.
  • Greet patients, register and preschedule transportation as needed.

Job Title: Senior Access AssociateDepartment: Department of Surgery RGHLocation: RGH - 1415 Portland Avenue, Rochester, NY 14621Hours Per Week: 40Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pmSUMMARYWhile performing in the role of an Access Associate, provides knowledge, expertise and guidance to a team of access associates. In a customer service oriented manner, interviews patients and/or their representative to collect required registration data, to include but is not limited to; demographic and financial data as well as obtain required signatures, communicates mandated patient information and verifies all information for accuracy. Process includes but is not limited to insurance verification, obtaining precertification/authorization, co-payment collection and communicating with patient and/or their representative with regards to their financial assistance needs.RESPONSIBILITIESWithin the senior capacity:Applies mastery of skills in area of specializationProvides guidance and general oversight to less experienced employees; may train new employees.Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity.Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex issues, patient cases, or technical skills.Provides knowledge, expertise and guidance to a team of access associates to ensure the following duties are completed timely and accurately while meeting regulatory standards.Manages incoming calls while providing necessary information.Greeting of patients and/or their representatives and providing direction as needed.Scheduling and/or prescheduling patient transportation as neededRegistering and/or pre-registering patient visits.Interviewing the patient and/or their representative for necessary information and completing the registration process as defined by departmental policy. (meet and greet)Identification of services where no payment source has been identified to be followed up by communication of financial assistance and/or payment arrangements.Verification of insurance eligibility/coverage and obtaining necessary precertification's/authorizations when applicable.Collecting/processing co-payments, deductibles and/or other types of payments. Provides an estimate of cost when applicable.Reviews charges in charge review WQs for completeness and accuracy.Ensures the accuracy of all data collected while meeting the regulatory requirements as outlined by the departmental policy.Communication with external customers such as but not limited to; payers, physician offices and other departments.Performs other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSGED or High School DiplomaPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSAssociate degree3 years related work experience in a healthcare or customer service settingBilingualBasic computer skills, excellent customer service and communication skills highly desired.EDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Sedentary - Sedentary roles are primarily office-based and require prolonged sitting (67–100% of the workday) with minimal physical effort and lifting limited to under 10 lbs. Fine motor skills are necessary for computer work, writing, and telephone use, supported by clear visual and auditory ability. Cognitive and emotional demands are high due to extended concentration, frequent interruptions, independent decision-making, and information processing. Although physical exposure is low, administrative areas within healthcare environments may occasionally involve contact with infectious agents. Some roles may require flexible hours, TB screening, or a valid driver’s license.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.Any physical requirements reported by a prospective employee and/or employee’s physician or delegate will be considered for accommodations.PAY RANGE:$18.00 - $21.00CITY:RochesterPOSTAL CODE:14618The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
