Job summary

Merrimack College seeks a Senior Academic Advisor to work within the Lucey Center for Academic and Career Advising. The role focuses on one-on-one and small-group advising, curriculum planning, and guiding students through concentrations, minors, and career exploration.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of academic advising experience.
• Knowledge of degree programs and corresponding career options.
• Understanding of advising processes.
• Excellent problem solving, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Positive attitude and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Willingness to learn and develop as an advising professional.
• Ability to relate well to students, faculty, staff, and families.
• This is a 12 month, in-person position with occasional weekend and evening responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Proactively work with students to provide holistic, academic support.
• Case managing students as part of college case management collaboration.
• Support MackForce Student Central desk and mailbox with timely responses to emails and inquiries.
• Make referrals to professionals across campus.
• Collaborate with Career Advisors to ensure students have access to internships, co-ops, research and experiential learning opportunities.
• Plan and implement major/industry-specific programs with the O’Brien Center for Career Development and the Scammon Family Center for Experiential Learning.
• Assist students with course planning and registration, withdrawals, changes of major/minors, and override requests.
• Build collaborative relationships with faculty and career-related offices.
• Represent the Lucey Center at Admission, Student Life and Alumni events.
• Elevate student experiences and achievements through social media, website, and reports.
