Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor in the Department of Theatre and Dance. Based on UT's Main Campus, this role supports Fine Arts students by planning and delivering academic advising, guiding degree requirements, and coordinating major-specific programs.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, located on campus with one remote day possible after probation, requiring 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity, or Master’s degree with four years of experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to track multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
  • Required Competencies: Effective Communication, Emotional Intelligence, Initiative, Accuracy and Attention to Detail, Teamwork, Growth and Development Mindset, Service Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • ROUTINE ACADEMIC ADVISING: Serve as primary advisor to a caseload of Theatre and Dance majors, provide information on degree requirements and policies, and refer to other offices as needed.
  • DEVELOPMENTAL ADVISING: Help students with educational, life and career goals, identify barriers, counsel in distress, and promote independence.
  • MAJOR ENHANCEMENT: Coordinate student programs and liaise with leadership to enhance undergraduate opportunities.
  • COMMUNICATION: Inform and engage students through websites, newsletters, and publications, and respond to inquiries.
  • TEAM ENGAGEMENT: Participate in team meetings and support cross-disciplinary collaboration within Fine Arts.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND UNIVERSITY SERVICE: Pursue ongoing learning and serve on committees; assist with events.
