Ohio State University’s Engineering | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department is seeking a Senior Academic Advisor to foster student success through proactive advising strategies. You will advise on university policy, degree requirements, and related academic matters, and coordinate orientation activities.
The role may involve leading advising initiatives and mentoring new advisors to strengthen the advising community.

Fosters student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. Advises students on University policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Assists in coordination and execution of student orientation. Coordinates orientation advising activities, redesigns activities and materials, manages logistics, assigns tasks to colleagues. Coordinates with other units and central orientation for planning and delivery. May serve as the instructor of record for University survey classes. Updates course materials and recommends and helps implement course improvements; recommends strategic course adjustments and trains other advisors on how to teach course; mentors new advisors and provides leadership in advising community.
Master's degree.
4 years’ experience in academic advising.
Deep understanding of programs, specialty areas, and academic and university policies. Demonstrates adaptive relational skills. Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to provide detail, depth, and context. Able to recommend policy, practice, and program changes to unit and/or university leadership. Utilizes and integrates historical knowledge of the academic advising profession. Applies theory to advising practice across different student populations. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; trains, interprets, and explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders. Able to support/mentor other advisors on complex topics. Demonstrates sophisticated cultural competence across multiple cultures and/or identities.
Able to identify and predict ramifications of current and proposed policies and practices on the student population and their programs. Builds relationships with students and provides proactive communication.
4-8 years’ experience in academic advising.
Detailed knowledge of Title IX, Student, and University requirements and policies. Broad knowledge of university policies and procedures. Able to perform basic and advanced transactions in SIS and knowledgeable on uncommon SIS transactions (enrollment transaction inquiry, residency, admissions data, etc.). Broad knowledge of course offerings, including thorough knowledge of General Education requirements (and any programmatic preferences for meeting requirements), and major courses, and course sequencing. Understand demographics and changing trends of their specific student population. Broad knowledge of student career development, especially in related fields; able to refer to appropriate engagement resources.

Hiring Range: $51,500 - $67,250
The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
