Job summary

PALS OHIO, LLC. is seeking a dedicated Self-Advocacy Coordinator to supervise and support adults with developmental disabilities in daily living, hygiene, budgeting, and community participation. You will document transportation, billing, and program activities, while improving safety and independence.

Responsibilities include organizing self-advocacy meetings, coordinating fundraising, and ensuring HIPAA compliance. A HS diploma, valid driver’s license, and current CPR/First Aid are required.

Qualifications

  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must be certified in Medication Administration within 90 days of hire and renewed annually.
  • Maintain Crisis Intervention and Behavior Support Plan training as needed.
  • Minimum of High School diploma or GED.
  • Current Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Criminal Background verification with acceptable clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support adults with developmental disabilities including money management, personal hygiene, community integration, skill-building and safety.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including transportation, billing, and program records.
  • Provide non-medical transportation as needed.
  • Check van functions and maintain vehicle maintenance schedule.
  • Ensure safety equipment is in good working order.
  • Attend weekly staff/house meetings and promote confidentiality and people-first language.
  • Maintain HIPAA records confidentiality and support Individual Rights.
  • Foster self-advocacy and assist in developing autonomy and life skills.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for supervision and support to adults with developmental disabilities including, but not limited to, money management, personal hygiene, community integration, skill building and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate documentation including, but not limited to, transportation, billing, and program documentation.
  • Safely provide Non-Medical Transportation as needed.
  • Routinely check functions of van and maintain proper maintenance schedule for the vehicle.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is in good working order.
  • Contribute to and attend weekly staff/house meetings.
  • Promote a supportive environment by modeling the guidelines of company philosophy, confidentiality, people-first language, empowerment, and fair and reasonable treatment of others.
  • Maintain confidentiality of HIPAA records and promoting Individual Rights.
  • Promote self-advocacy efforts to those PALS serves in areas such as expression of views, securing rights, pursuing interests and obtaining the services.
  • Implement and provide programming to cultivate skills that lead to increased autonomy and self-sufficiency for those PALS serves.
  • Provide learning opportunities for individuals to develop the necessary skills, confidence and knowledge to assist in bringing about positive change in their lives.
  • Attend monthly self-advocacy meetings with other PALS Self Advocacy Coordinators
  • Conduct bi-weekly self-advocacy meetings with the individuals on location.
  • Schedule and manage a minimum of 4 self-advocacy fundraisers annually.
  • Attend annual self-advocacy awareness events such as the annual visit to the State house, synergy meetings, and amusement park. Some events may require overnight stays.
  • Maintain and oversee the self-advocacy budget and ensure funds are used in the furtherance of self-advocacy efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Maintain current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be certified in Medication Administration at hire or within 90 days of employment and renewed annually.
  • Maintain Crisis Intervention and Behavior Support Plan training as needed.
  • Minimum of High School diploma or GED.
  • Current Driver’s License with acceptable driving record. Driving history must meet insurance carrier requirements.
  • Criminal Background verification, with acceptable clearance according to applicable rules and requirements is required.

  • Ability to work as a team member and communicate in a positive and effective manner with persons served, support staff, and others.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.

  • Ability to use good judgment.
  • Able to use web-based technology.
  • Must be able to lift or move 20 pounds.
