JOB SUMMARY

The Lead Selective Demolition Operator is a highly skilled field professional who serves as a working lead for selective demolition crews, supporting the Foreman and Superintendent in the safe, efficient, and successful execution of demolition projects. This role performs and coordinates interior & selective demolition activities in commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, hospitality, and occupied environments while providing day‑to‑day leadership, direction, training, and support to crew members.

COMPENSATION

$35.77 to $48.90 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Crew Support
  • Serve as a working lead for assigned demolition crews and provide daily direction, coaching, and support to laborers and operators.
  • Assist the Foreman with crew coordination, task assignments, production goals, and daily work planning.
  • Lead by example through safe work practices, professionalism, accountability, and quality workmanship.
  • Mentor and train employees on demolition methods, equipment operation, safety procedures, and company expectations.
  • Support new employee onboarding and field training efforts.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and a positive job‑site culture.
Demolition Operations
  • Perform and coordinate selective demolition activities including structural removal, saw cutting, wall and ceiling demolition, flooring removal, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing demolition, utility abandonment and removals, and site preparation activities.
  • Operate demolition and construction equipment including excavators, skid steers, loaders, breakers, compactors, and other assigned equipment.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, demolition drawings, and work scopes to ensure proper execution.
  • Verify demolition limits and protect structures, systems, and materials designated to remain.
  • Coordinate demolition sequencing to maintain productivity and minimize disruptions to ongoing operations.
  • Identify and communicate field conditions that may impact safety, schedule, cost or project execution.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain strict adherence to company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project‑specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Participate in pre‑task planning, JHAs, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Identify and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors.
  • Assist with implementation of dust control, noise control, environmental controls, and containment measures.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and demolition‑specific safety controls.
  • Support compliance with permitting, environmental, and regulatory requirements applicable to demolition activities.
Quality & Production
  • Maintain high‑quality standards and ensure demolition work is completed according to project requirements.
  • Monitor crew productivity and support efficient use of labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist in tracking daily production quantities and completed work.
  • Verify work areas are properly prepared, protected, and cleaned upon completion.
  • Support schedule commitments by helping crews meet production goals and project milestones.
Communication & Coordination
  • Communicate daily project updates, concerns, and progress to the Foreman and Superintendent.
  • Coordinate work activities with subcontractors, building occupants, facility representatives, and other trades.
  • Assist in resolving field issues and identifying practical solutions to maintain project progress.
  • Represent Fiore & Sons professionally when interacting with customers, vendors, inspectors, and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven experience and skill in interior demolition in occupied facilities, including healthcare, education, hospitality, or commercial renovation projects with a strong understanding of demolition sequencing, means, and methods.
  • Extremely self‑motivated with the ability to take the lead on assignments as well as follow instructions and work within parameters of excellence established by leadership.
  • Excellent safety history and a willingness to engage and contribute to ongoing safe work practices, such as daily equipment inspections and reporting incidents, as well as strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, and shoring safety standards.
  • Top‑notch communication skills with the ability to effectively, respectfully, and positively interact with supervisors, team members, and subcontractors.
  • Dependability and reliability with a good attendance record and the willingness and ability to adapt to scheduling needs as required to accommodate company and project needs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and demolition plans.
  • Knowledge of machines, demolition attachments, and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Consistent access to a reliable personal email account.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred: High School diploma or GED.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • First aid/CPR certification.
  • Required: Minimum 5 years of construction, demolition, or related heavy civil experience. Minimum 2 years of experience leading crews, mentoring employees, or serving in a lead role.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Operators are subject to continuous bouncing, shaking, and equipment vibration throughout their shift. Functions require the ability to sit, stand, ride in vehicles for long periods, as well as the physical ability and mobility to access equipment, modify attachments, and control cabins.
  • Ability to push/pull/manipulate hand tools up to 54 ft./lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull, open/close engine housing hatches up to 25‑46 ft./lbs.
  • Ability to lift / load / carry up to 55 lbs., including fittings, generators, meters, equipment, and other materials.
  • Ability to climb into and out of equipment.
  • Ability to reach above head and 6‑inches with fine gross motor skill.
  • Ability to operate various sized fire extinguishers, in training or emergency situations.
  • Ability to dig/shovel various soils while performing daily duties.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Outside work exposed to variable weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow) and muddy ground conditions.
