Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a mid- to senior-level Sediment Remediation Engineer to lead projects for federal and public sector clients. You will independently work and also lead teams of engineers and scientists on sediment remediation efforts, applying technical strategies and coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

The role emphasizes expertise in sediment transport, regulatory knowledge (CERCLA, GLLA), design of remediation approaches, and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Providing expertise in evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and preparing sediment remediation designs for riverine, coastal, riparian/floodplain, and/or port site settings involving multiple stakeholders.
• Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of sediment and contaminant transport, environmental site assessment, sampling/monitoring technologies, cap modeling, dredge approaches, remedial action design, and/or remedial action construction.
• Providing support of mathematical/statistical evaluations of environmental data sets.
• Serving as CDM Smith’s task manager on various components of complicated sediments sites, communicating a technical strategy to the client and coordinating with SME.
• Possessing deep expertise in regulatory steps (CERCLA, GLLA, and others) at contaminated sediment sites.
• Serving as a technical liaison with the client, public, and outside consultants, including communicating complex evaluations to non-subject matter experts.
• Leading other staff in preparing/reviewing/scrutinizing technical information to ensure regulatory compliance and technical soundness.
