Salary & Work Details

Salary: $19.50/Hour Minimum.
Bargaining Unit: AGCEP Contract (click here for contracts).
Report Times: Varies.
Daily Hours: 8.5 (8 Paid).
Work Year: 39 Weeks.
Supervisor: Director of School Safety and Security.
Civil Service Title: Security Worker.

Minimum Requirements

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma. Experience as a security guard or security officer may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State. If appointed, a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or capacity to meet transportation needs is required.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you must meet the minimum qualifications of the title.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have permanent non-competitive status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.

• Previous work experience with students K-12.
• CPR/AED certification or willingness to be certified.
• Ability to work with groups of students, staff, and public.
• Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
• Willingness to work an alternate work day schedule as required to support the educational program needs.
• Daily attendance is expected.

Position Summary / Responsibilities

• Provides security for the school building and enforces security and smoking regulations.
• Works collaboratively with other safety team members to take action on discipline and behavior problems of students within the school building.
• Builds relationships with students to facilitate academic and social success.
• Works collaboratively with other security staff to quickly resolve any problems involving student safety.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
