Job summary

Mall of America is seeking a Parking Traffic Officer to direct motor vehicles through the MOA parking ramps and ramp entrances, assist guests, and maintain safe traffic flow in all weather. You will set up cones, adjust lanes, and coordinate with radio communications to keep officers informed of incidents.

Candidates must be at least 15, complete MOA classroom training, and demonstrate strong verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as excellent coordination.

Responsibilities

• Direct motor vehicles through the MOA parking ramps and ramp entrances.
• Set up and collect traffic cones for upper levels to establish lanes.
• Ensure clear radio traffic so officers and supervisors are informed.
• Assist drivers and pedestrians to navigate safely through ramps.
• Adjust cones and direct traffic flow according to ramp capacity.
• Identify and report hazardous conditions or emergencies.
• Maintain safety awareness at all times for self and others.
• Interact professionally with guests and manage upset situations.
• Report concerns and assist other MOA Security divisions as needed.
• Cross train with the PEP unit when required.
• Work in all weather conditions with MOA issued gear.
• Maintain a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-volume days.

Job description

PURPOSE:

To ensure effective traffic flow throughout Mall of America's parking lots and ramps by directing traffic and communicating with guests as they arrive and depart.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Direct motor vehicles through the MOA parking ramps and ramp entrances.
• Set up and collect traffic cones for the upper levels of the parking ramps to establish inbound and outbound lanes for traffic flow.
• Ensure clear radio traffic so all officers and supervisors are aware of incidents and safety concerns.
• Assist drivers and pedestrians to navigate safely through the parking ramps.
• Quickly adapt to changes, adjust cones, and direct traffic flow according to direction and ramp capacity.
• Identify and report harmful or hazardous conditions or emergency situations.
• Maintain safety awareness at all times to ensure the safety of self, other team members, and guests.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with upset guests, ensuring the safety of self and others.
• Assist in detecting at-risk guests and situations by reporting concerns using provided radio.
• Assist other MOA Security divisions by observing and reporting suspicious activity.
• Cross train with the PEP unit as needed.
• Work in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold with MOA issued gear.
• Work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high volume days.
• Additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the officer will occasionally be required to speak and listen to guests to understand their needs and communicate a solution. Officers must possess a level of hearing that will continuously allow them to be aware of their surroundings and recognize when a guest or other team member needs their attention. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Officers are required to be able to tolerate multiple sensory stimuli at once while performing their duties. These stimuli may include: loud auditory/noise, smells/olfactory, hot/cold temperatures, bright lights, colors, motion, and other visual and tactile stimuli.
