Job summary

Preferred Technologies, LLC is seeking a Security Systems Programmer I to support deployment and validation of enterprise security technologies. This entry-level role assists in programming cameras, intrusion, and access control devices under guidance.

You will work with IT Services and field teams, perform data entry, configure PACS, CCTV, and IDS, and help document results while following SOPs. Travel 10–20% to offices and job sites.

Qualifications

• Basic understanding of networked security systems and low-voltage electronics.

• Currently licensed or must be able to immediately obtain TXDPS Security License and TWIC card.

Responsibilities

• Data entry.
• IP addressing of cameras, intrusion, and access control devices.
• Security/Intrusion system programming of cameras, intrusion, and access control devices across platforms (Genetec, Honeywell, Software House, DMP, Bosch).
• Assist field teams with configuration, integration, and testing of PACS, CCTV, IDS.
• Follow detailed technical instructions and SOPs under IT Services Manager guidance.
• Participate in on-site and remote troubleshooting to ensure system functionality and compliance.
• Document configuration steps, test results, and performance metrics.
• Support preparation and staging of equipment for deployment.
• Maintain responsiveness in dynamic field environments.

Position Overview

The Security Systems Programmer I plays a vital support role within the IT Services team, assisting in the deployment and validation of critical security technologies. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates eager to grow their technical skills in real-world environments while contributing to the successful implementation of enterprise security systems. You will assist customers both internal and external with various requests for security system programming support.

Key Responsibilities

The following are tasks that the position is responsible for, but not limited to:

• Data entry
• IP addressing of cameras, intrusion, and access control devices
• Security/Intrusion system programming of cameras, intrusion, and access control devices within various platforms. (Genetec, Honeywell, Software House, DMP, Bosch, etc…)
• Assist field teams with the configuration, integration, and testing of:
• Physical Access Control Systems (PACS)
• Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems
• Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
• Follow detailed technical instructions and standard operating procedures under the guidance of the IT Services Manager
• Participate in on-site and remote troubleshooting efforts to ensure system functionality and compliance
• Document configuration steps, test results, and system performance metrics
• Support the preparation and staging of equipment for deployment
• Maintain a high level of responsiveness and adaptability in dynamic field environments

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Microsoft Office Products i.e.. Excel, Word, Teams
• Basic understanding of networked security systems and low-voltage electronics
• Ability to absorb and follow technical instructions with precision
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Solves problems accurately and efficiently
• Shows initiative
• Currently licensed or must have the ability to immediately obtain TXDPS Security License and TWIC card

Preferred Qualifications

• Access Control and CCTV Security Systems
• Familiarity with tools used for system configuration and diagnostics is a plus

Work Hours & Travel

Our office hours are from Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Travel is 10-20% to Pref-Tech offices, job sites, and conferences.

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily office-based and requires the ability to sit for extended periods, operate a computer and standard office equipment, and communicate effectively in person and electronically.
