Job summary

Job description

Position

COMSEC (Communications Security) Security Specialist – responsible for managing all communications security materials, equipment, and cryptographic devices within the organization, ensuring classification compliance and safeguarding sensitive information.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day support for Collateral, SCI, and SAP activities across the enterprise.
  • Conduct secure equipment (e.g., secure telephones, encryption devices) and classified keying material inventories and inspections.
  • Administer a Top‑Secret inventory and document control program to account for COMSEC equipment and materials.
  • Conduct COMSEC briefings for personnel about their responsibilities prior to granting access.
  • Courier classified information and author receipts for classified materials.
  • Maintain internal security databases and other records (COMSEC, security incidents, etc.).
  • Apply knowledge of security classification, associated markings, and physical security requirements for secure vaults and rooms.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and 2–3 years of COMSEC experience (for Security Specialist III) or 3–5 years (for Security Specialist IV).
  • Current Top‑Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • U.S. citizenship required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Willingness to submit to a counter‑intelligence polygraph.
  • Experience with NISP and/or SCI and NSA Type‑I encryption devices (KG‑175, KG‑185, KIV‑7, KG‑250, Omni, DTD, SDS, VIPERs, STE with KSV‑21).
  • Knowledge of NSA/CSS 3‑16 and standard COMSEC tasks (e.g., updating DIAS, briefings, inventories, incident reporting, loading key material).
  • Completion of the COMSEC Manager’s course within six months of starting.
  • For Security Specialist IV: proven track record in COMSEC audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
How You Can Stand Out
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or military experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with COMSEC materials.
  • Experience interfacing with government security agencies.
  • Experience in handling and safeguarding classified information.
  • Experience instructing users on proper use and protection of COMSEC material.
  • Experience using COMSEC fill devices (SKL, RASKL, SDS, etc.).
  • Experience with COMSEC‑specific tracking databases (CARDS, DIAS, etc.).
  • Experience as a Cryptographic Network (CRYPTO NET) Controlling Authority (CONAUTH).
Compensation

Hourly pay range: $33.92 – $50.88. Pay determination based on experience, education, and performance.
