Key Responsibilities

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for a Security Specialist for the 61 FSS (NH-0080-02, GS-05/11 Equivalent). Description: This position implements and administers the Information Security Program, providing security guidance and direction to a civilian and military work force to implement and administer the Security Education, Information, Industrial and Personnel Security Programs.

The incumbent will review security classification management and declassification policies, standards, and security management guides and analyze the classification downgrading, declassification, and destruction programs as well as advise senior leaders and staff on position sensitivity requirements and determinations.

The Incumbent ensures requests for security clearances are properly screened and verified, and that all necessary forms and documentation have been completed before processing clearances. Analyzes each request received to determine validity for access indicated. Evaluates the sensitivity for positions, degree of clearance, and special access required to perform duties to determine type of investigation required. Maintains prescribed files and records pertinent to clearances.

Establishes priority processing of requests for investigations and correspondence pertaining to clearance records. Additionally reviews security clearance requests and similar related material for information that adversely reflects on the individual's loyalty or character, such as sabotage, espionage, sedition, or subversive tendencies, criminal, infamous, or disgraceful conduct.

If results reveal misrepresentation, the incumbent will be responsible for initiating correspondence to appropriate authorities summarizing any falsified or derogatory information.

Ideal Candidate: This position requires a comprehensive knowledge of current and traditional security policies and procedures and knowledge of a wide range of security systems, concepts, principles, process, and practices of the Information/Industrial/Personnel Security Programs to plan and improve security procedures.

The incumbent is expected to be able to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a medium sized organization and demonstrate skill in writing instructions and procedural documentation, oral communication, and the ability to function effectively with little direct oversight and organize work appropriately to meet deadlines.
