Job summary

Pro-Tec Design in Minnetonka, MN is seeking a full-time Solution Designer to convert customer needs and RFPs into clear designs and estimates for access control, video, and intrusion systems.

You'll bridge sales, operations, and field teams, ensuring designs are practical, code-compliant, and easy to install while meeting project timelines and margin targets. This hands-on role rewards practical problem solving, teamwork, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years in physical security system design, estimating, project management, or related field.
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, security standards, and specifications.
• Experience with enterprise security platforms and design/estimating tools.

Responsibilities

• Review RFPs, drawings, site notes, and customer standards; clarify scope, assumptions, and risks early.
• Design and document electronic security systems (access control, video, intrusion, intercom) that are accurate, code-compliant, and aligned with customer standards.
• Produce complete design packages: floor plans, device layouts, risers/one-lines, schedules, bill of materials, basis of design, and narratives.
• Produce quotes including Scopes of Work and Bills of Materials.
• Work closely with sales to shape solutions, budgets, and value-engineering options that meet customer objectives and margin targets.
• Collaborate with project managers and technicians to validate constructability and installation approach before we propose or release for build.
• Coordinate with GCs, electrical contractors, IT, and other trades to align power, pathways, network, and door hardware requirements.
• Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, and design reviews as needed to confirm conditions and refine scope.
• Apply relevant codes and standards and document constraints and exceptions.
• Maintain disciplined document control and develop standards for repeatable verticals.
