Job description

About The Role

Pro‑Tec Design is looking for a full‑time Solution Designer to help our customers protect their people, data, and facilities through smart, well‑engineered physical security solutions. You will turn customer needs, drawings, and RFPs into clear, buildable designs and estimates for access control, video, and intrusion systems.

Who You Are

You're a hands‑on security technologist who likes to solve problems and sweat the details. You enjoy working with sales, project managers, and field technicians to make sure what we design is practical, code‑compliant, and easy to install.

You’ll Fit Well At Pro‑Tec Design If You

  • Are empowered to do what is right for the customer, not just what is fastest.

  • Stay open‑minded, listen first, and value different opinions and backgrounds.

  • Are humble, let your work speak for itself, and share credit freely.

  • Are proud of your craft and hold yourself and others to a high standard.

  • Act as a team player, rely on the expertise around you, and help others succeed.

What You’ll Do

You’ll be a key bridge between sales, operations, and the field - owning the technical quality of what we propose and install.

Responsibilities

  • Review RFPs, drawings, site notes, and customer standards; clarify scope, assumptions, and risks early.

  • Design and document electronic security systems (access control, video, intrusion, intercom) that are accurate, code‑compliant, and aligned with customer standards.

  • Produce complete design packages: floor plans, device layouts, risers/one‑lines, schedules, bill of materials, basis of design, and narratives.

  • Produce quotes including Scopes of Work and Bills of Materials.

  • Work closely with sales to shape solutions, budgets, and value‑engineering options that meet customer objectives and margin targets.

  • Collaborate with project managers and technicians to validate constructability and installation approach before we propose or release for build.

  • Coordinate with GCs, electrical contractors, IT, and other trades to align power, pathways, network, and door hardware requirements.

  • Participate in site walks, pre‑bid meetings, and design reviews as needed to confirm conditions and refine scope.

  • Apply relevant codes and standards (e.g., UL 2050 where applicable, NFPA, local AHJ requirements) and document constraints and exceptions.

  • Maintain disciplined document control: naming, versioning, templates, and clean audit trails for design decisions.

  • Support continuous improvement by developing and refining typical details, standards, and checklists for repeatable verticals (healthcare, education, government, etc.).

  • Manage the public bid boards and bring opportunities forward

  • Mentor less‑experienced team members by sharing best practices in design and estimating.

What You’ll Need

We care about skill, attitude, and fit with our values; titles can vary, but you are likely to have done some mix of design, estimating, and project work in physical security.

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-5 years in physical security system design, estimating, project management, commissioning, or field installation (access control, video, intrusion).

  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, security standards, door hardware schedules, and Division 28 specs.

  • Working knowledge of one or more enterprise security platforms (e.g., Genetec, Lenel, Avigilon, Milestone, etc.).

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, AutoCAD and/or Revit markups, plus strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, Smartsheet or similar).

  • Strong working knowledge of one or more estimating quoting tools on the market.

  • Solid understanding of low‑voltage infrastructure basics: power, PoE, network segmentation, pathways, and grounding.

  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple designs and deadlines at once.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with internal teams, customers, and partners.

Nice To Have

  • Experience with complex or regulated environments (airports, data centers, healthcare, government, UL 2050, etc.).

  • ASIS PSP/CPP in progress or completed, or manufacturer certifications on major platforms.

  • Experience developing standards or \"Design as a Service\" style deliverables for enterprise customers.

Why Pro‑Tec Design

  • Clear expectations, accountability, and room to grow your skills and responsibilities over time.

  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and the stability of a well‑established, growth‑oriented integrator.
