Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security Products Engineering team. You will design and implement security‑focused software across GM’s application ecosystem and drive secure-by-default patterns for developers and end users.

You’ll work hands-on across systems, tooling, and CI/CD pipelines, embedding security throughout the software development lifecycle while mentoring colleagues in secure coding practices and architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• 7 years of experience as a software engineer building and owning production systems or in‑house applications.
• Advanced proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, Java, or C) with understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Experience using AI‑assisted development tools as part of day‑to‑day engineering workflows.
• Experience designing, implementing, and operating services on a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain security‑focused software components, services, and tools.
• Develop automation frameworks and internal platforms for secure patterns.
• Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines and cloud workflows.
• Architect and implement scalable security services and APIs.
• Collaborate with other teams to embed security requirements into designs.
• Perform secure code reviews, threat modeling, and design reviews.
