Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security Products Engineering team. You will design and implement security-focused software and services that span GM's application ecosystem and automate security across pipelines.

You will work hands-on designing systems, writing code, reviewing designs, and partnering with teams to embed security into the software development lifecycle, with mentorship to others and a focus on scalable, secure architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/Software Eng/Cybersecurity or related field.
• 7+ years of experience building/owning production systems.
• Proficiency in Python/Go/Java/C++ with fundamentals.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and IaC.
• Hands-on with Docker/Kubernetes and core security concepts (OAuth2/OIDC, RBAC/ABAC).
• Agile environment experience and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain security-focused software components, services, and tools.
• Develop automation frameworks and internal platforms for secure patterns (identity, authorization, secrets management, logging).
• Integrate security controls into CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and cloud-native workflows.
• Architect and implement secure services and APIs (authentication, authorization, policy evaluation).
• Collaborate with teams to embed security requirements into designs; perform secure code reviews and threat modeling.
• Contribute to security telemetry, incident response, and post-incident reviews; mentor on secure coding.
