Position Summary

Position: Security Officer

Department: Security

Shift/Hours: 40 Hours/Week

Responsibilities

1. Provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
2. Patrols all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions, only if licensed to operate hospital vehicles.
3. Provides key assists to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas to authorized personnel.
4. Detects suspicious activities within the campus and handles situations appropriately.
5. Reports criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement, as appropriate.
6. Investigates accident scenes, searches for and preserves evidence; investigates and interviews witnesses; makes reports; responds tactfully to stressful or hostile situations.
7. Assists medical staff with enforcement of Baker Act and Marchman Act patients with use of approved medical restraints.
8. Works with law enforcement dealing with patient/prisoner intake and status during hospital stay, and assists with securing high-risk patients.
9. Reports all safety and security violations throughout the campus.
10. Responds to helicopter flights ensuring helipad safety and assists in handling patient transport.
11. Uses walk-through and handheld metal detectors.
12. Maintains regular, punctual attendance and compliance with all policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.

Licensure/Certification:

• Valid Florida driver’s license and insurable under Orlando Health’s requirements.
• State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License within 120 days of hire, renewable biannually.
• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days, renewable annually.
• Basic Security Officer Certification or higher through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days.
