Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island in Mineola, NY is hiring a per diem Security Officer to patrol hospital buildings and grounds, monitor access, and respond to emergencies. The role includes ensuring safety, assisting staff, and providing escorts as required.

Qualified candidates will hold a HS diploma, NYS Security Guard license, CPR/AED and CPI certifications, and strong communication and customer service skills. Some college and MS Office knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

• Current and valid NYS Security Guard License.
• Current CPR and AED certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Current CPI certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Protect and safeguard hospital properties and installations; patrol areas; manage doors and restricted areas; check fire hoses; operate security systems; provide escorts as directed.
• Observe visitors; answer questions; investigate losses; escort unauthorized individuals from premises; prepare incident reports.
• Explain security policies to visitors and staff; assist with controlling visitor traffic; maintain package control policy.
• Respond to fire alarms and emergencies; unlock doors; direct people to safe areas; assist responders.
• Detain law violators and represent the hospital in legal cases; direct traffic; may drive hospital vehicles.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Security Officer - Per Diem.

In this role, the successful candidate Patrol Hospital buildings and grounds. Hold post on an assigned shift protecting patients, visitors, volunteers, employees, and property. Respond to Hospital emergencies and provide staff support on access control and special activities as required.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned
• Greets patients, visitors, and employees in a courteous manner. Identify yourself, if requested, by name clearly and concisely. Respond to inquiries politely and promptly. Provides directions to visitors as needed. Refer matters outside the scope of own duties to appropriate others as necessary, keeping patients and others informed as needed.
• Protect and safeguard various hospital properties and installations, as assigned. Patrol surrounding areas to ensure orderliness of environment i.e. lock and/or open doors, secure restricted areas, check fire hoses, stairwells, etc. in accordance with established procedure. Operate and/or monitor various security systems (alarms, TV surveillance, etc.). Provide security escorts as directed, i.e. safe corridor to parking garages.
• Observe visitors to hospital, answer questions, and investigate reported losses, suspicious and/or unusual situations in a courteous efficient manner. Escort unruly or unauthorized personnel from hospital premises in a tactful and professional manner. May require restraining skills to appropriately subdue violators and/or emotionally disturbed individuals. Prepare and submit appropriate incident reports to supervisor.
• Explain hospital security policies and procedures to visitors, staff, etc., as necessary. Assist other departments in controlling visitor traffic as required. Maintain hospital package control policy in accordance with established procedure.
• Respond promptly to fire alarms, and other emergencies using established communication system in accordance with established procedure. Unlock doors, direct immediate and affected population to a safe area, assist fire brigade or appropriate others in a timely and efficient manner.
• Detain law violators and represent the hospital in legal cases as necessary. Direct traffic, guard celebrities, and police official ceremonies, etc. as assigned. May drive hospital vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or the equivalent.

Current and valid NYS Security Guard License.

Current and valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification (Must be obtained within 90 days of Hire date).

Current and valid Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI) certification (Must be obtained within 90 days of Hire date).

Strong communication (both oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills..

Required Licenses: Crisis Prevent/Intervention-Ct, Security Guard Reg-NYS

Preferred Qualifications

Some College. Current and valid NYS Drivers License. Basic computer skills including MS Office.
