Job summary

The Senator John Heinz History Center, the largest history museum in Pennsylvania, seeks part-time and casual Security Officers in Pittsburgh. Officers must be friendly, firm and responsive to visitor needs, monitor security systems and assist with risk management, including threat reporting.

  • Available to work days, nights, evenings, weekends and holidays strongly preferred.
  • High school education or equivalent required with 2 years, recent security experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited security program or police academy a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and operate security systems and assist with risk management by locating, reporting and addressing threats.
  • Ensure safety of patrons during events and regular hours, responding to incidents as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of History Center exhibits, programs and emergency procedures while delivering exceptional customer service.

The Senator John Heinz History Center, the largest history museum in Pennsylvania dedicated to history and an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is seeking part-time and casual, Security Officers. Security Officers must be friendly yet firm and responsive to the needs of all customers. The Officer may be questioned by the public on a number of topics regarding the History Center – directions within, amenities, exhibit components, and facilities. The officer observes and operates security systems as well as assists with overall risk management – locating, correcting and/or reporting threats of all kinds to the organization. The position demands that the officer maintain a working knowledge of the History Center exhibits, programs, and emergency response protocols while providing extraordinary customer service /interactions. Since the Officer at times be the only person in the building, a high degree of attentiveness and pro-activity will be necessary.

These are part-time and casual positions reporting to the Chief of Security.

Qualifications
  • Available to work days, nights, evenings, weekends and holidays strongly preferred.
  • High school education or equivalent required with 2 years, recent (within the last 5 years) and relevant security experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited security program or police academy a plus.

This position requires extreme attentiveness with the security monitors, alarms, and execution of security procedures ensuring the safety of the patrons during late evening events, evening/night staff, facilities, and other facility contents. This position is moderately physically demanding. It also requires the ability to be both a multi-team player as well as function independently with a lot of self-motivation. Must have extraordinary customer service and interpersonal skills.
