Job summary

The Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a full-time Exhibit Technician to join the Exhibit team. You will assist with development, production, installation, maintenance and de-installation of exhibits, including painting, mounts, graphics, and hands-on interactives.

This is an hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Exhibit Production. The role covers drywall work, carpentry, operating A/V gear, and maintaining a safe, clean wood shop environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 1-3 years in exhibit or theater production preferred.
  • Proficiency with electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and blueprints; carpentry knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development, production, installation, maintenance and de-installation of exhibits.
  • Fabricate exhibits including painting, construction, making mounts, installing objects and graphics, and creating hands-on interactives.
  • Perform drywall spackling and finishing, painting, sanding, cleaning and maintenance of exhibit galleries.
  • Assist with A/V equipment and maintain a clean/safe wood shop and fabrication area.

About the Postion

The Heinz History Center is seeking a full, time Exhibit Technician to join our Exhibit team. The Exhibit Technician’s primary responsibility is to assist with the development, production, installation maintenance and de-installation of exhibits. The successful candidate will assist with the fabrication of exhibits including painting, construction, making mounts, installing objects and graphics, and creating hands-on interactives. Other responsibilities include drywall spakling and finishing, painting, sanding, cleaning and maintenance of exhibit galleries, assistance with A/V equipment and maintaining a clean / safe wood shop and fabrication area.


This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Exhibit Production.

Qualifications

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent is required. 1 -3 year’s experience in exhibit or theater production or construction is preferred.


Skills

Must be proficient is using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools. Ability to read technical documents, drawings and blue prints. Understanding of advanced construction and structure. Must have a strong understanding of carpenty techniques and methods of installation and construction. This job requires the ability to be a team player, as well as be able to function independently. Self-motivation is important. This position is physically demanding requiring extensive lifting, bending, walkings, climbing and standing. A strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise instructions is imperative.
