Responsibilities

As a Security Officer Part Time Access Verification in Norfolk, VA you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Logistics & Distribution, and more. As a Part-Time Security Officer you can build a schedule that works for you and explore new roles using our Claim a Shift platform. As an Access Control Officer at a busy marine terminal you will help maintain a secure, professional environment by monitoring entry points, verifying credentials, managing badge access, and communicating clearly with visitors, drivers, and site personnel. You will remain visible, respond to security-related concerns, and help deter incidents while delivering exceptional customer service.

Position Type: Part Time

Pay Rate: $18.80 / Hour

Job Schedule:

• Tue: 02:00 PM - 10:00 PM
• Wed: 02:00 PM - 10:00 PM
• Thur: 02:00 PM - 10:00 PM

What You'll Do:

• Provide customer service to drivers, visitors, contractors, and personnel by carrying out site‑specific access control procedures, policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities.
• Monitor and control access at gates, entry points, and restricted areas by verifying credentials, authorizations, delivery appointments, and vehicle information.
• Maintain accurate access logs and documentation for incoming and outgoing vehicles, visitors, contractors, and deliveries in accordance with site procedures.
• Respond to access‑related incidents, alarms, and critical situations in a calm, problem‑solving manner, communicating observations to appropriate personnel and/or emergency responders.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of entry points, loading areas, parking areas, and the perimeter to help deter unauthorized access and identify security‑related concerns.

Minimum Requirements:

• Possess at least 1 year of security‑related experience.
• Possess a TSA‑issued TWIC.
• Access control and badge experience is preferred.
• A guard card or license is preferred.
• Customer service experience is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
