Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience REQUIRED: 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training in security or related college coursework.
• Experience PREFERRED: 1 year of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience.
• Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Education/training PREFERRED: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

The Security Officer provides security services to VCUHS by courteously assisting staff, visitors and patients; enforcing rules and regulations of the hospitals; projecting a positive image; and promoting a safe healthcare environment.

The Security Officer conveys an image of professionalism, behaving in a way that is conducive to good hospital and community relations. This is an unarmed, non-sworn security position.

Experience REQUIRED:

• Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and techniques at a level generally acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training and orientation in such techniques or college curriculum in Administration of Justice

Experience PREFERRED:

• One (1) year of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience

Education/training REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

Education/training PREFERRED:

• Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related field

Independent action(s) required:

• De-escalates agitated patients, both individually and as a member of a team.
• Prevents potentially risky and/or violent situations.

Additional position requirements:

• Ability to work all shifts including weekends and holidays and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.
• Some Security Officer roles may require valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record that reflects safe and lawful motor vehicle operation.

Compensation Range

$15.69 - $23.53

Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
