Security is the first Mid-Pacific Institute employee that the public comes into contact with for entrance onto campus and/or to seek information. Security is responsible for, but not limited to, monitoring campus entry and exit points, patrolling the premises of the school campus to detect suspicious activity, and assisting administration, faculty, staff, students, and visitors to ensure the safety of all individuals and the protection of all assets.

Security shall provide information and requests that comply with safety and other Mid-Pacific Institute policies as directed on campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • This position requires excellent communication, verbal and writing skills, professional approach and appearance, and the ability to apply good judgment in the performance of the duties.
  • Patrol school premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and/or suspicious activity.
  • Patrol school premises to ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against unwelcome guests who may pose a threat to the security of the campus.
  • Keep a log of all visitors' vehicle license plates and the location of the visit.
  • Refuse to admit persons who do not comply with entrance requirements.
  • Provide information and directions to visitors.
  • Write reports of any irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the locations of all departments, buildings, and access routes.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the operation of the camera system, fire alarm, portable radios, and other equipment as deemed necessary.
  • Report outages of the camera system, power outages, or unusual circumstances that could harm the camera and computer systems to the appropriate administrator or supervisor.
  • Maintain knowledge of Mid-Pacific Institute's emergency response plans and respond accordingly to any emergency or unusual situation.
  • Check vehicles in school parking lots for authorized parking decals. Issue parking violation warnings and tags when necessary.
  • Warn and enforce persons for infractions or violations, escort violators from premises, and call appropriate authorities when necessary.
  • Call emergency first responders (i.e. police, fire, ambulance) in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Maintain a log of all found property turned over to Security. Secure property in a container held at the Guard Shack. iPads must be turned over immediately to IT. If iPads are found after hours, keep them in the guard shack until it is claimed or until IT reopens.
  • Facilitate the efficient and safe flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic through professional and effective traffic control.
  • When on duty, be familiar with school activities and responsibilities.
  • Communicate emergency, safety, suspicious, criminal activities to the appropriate administrator or supervisor promptly.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with the use of two-way radios.
  • Keep information confidential; convey information only to the appropriate personnel.
  • Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflicts in dealing with visitors on campus.
  • Report any unsafe equipment, structure, situation, condition, or circumstance to the appropriate administrator or supervisor.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at work.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
  • Participate in the development of a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Comply with the instructions given for their own safety and health and that of others, in adhering to safe work procedures.
  • Take reasonable care to ensure their own safety and health and that of others.
  • Report any injury, hazard or illness immediately, to their Supervisor and Human Resources.
  • Not place others at risk by any act or omission, not willfully or recklessly interfere with safety equipment.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating safe work behaviors.
  • Identify, assess if necessary, and control hazards within area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that equipment/supplies are properly maintained.
  • Maintain relevant knowledge of safety laws.
  • Mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement or child protective services, and Human Resources. Sexual abuse includes child molestation, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with a minor, and serial sexual misconduct, any actual or alleged illegal or otherwise wrongful sexual conduct with more than one victim; and committed by or alleged to have been committed by any perpetrator who is not a student of an included entity.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • A high school degree.
  • Preferred prior experience as a security officer, police officer, or Military Police.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Our campus consists of multiple buildings on 44 hilly acres that require frequent walking including uphill, downhill, uneven terrain, slopes, stairs, and to grassy fields for fire drills. Must be able to:
  • Spend long periods standing and walking.
  • Frequently stand throughout the day and at times for extended periods; sit in a normal seated position reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction throughout the day and at times for extended periods.
  • Must be able to run in the event of an emergency.
  • Respond and/or act quickly to urgent calls by foot/cart.
  • Must be able to drive a gas or electric vehicle (golf cart type).
  • Occasionally bend, lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with the whole hand(s) or arm(s). Must be able to open and secure numerous doors with the use of keys, latches, and other security devices.
  • See and hear within normal parameters and possess the ability to move about with little to no difficulty. Must be able to hear and respond to portable two-way radio, telephone, and alarm or other security systems.
  • Must clear the drug screening, physical, and fingerprint/background check requirements.
  • Reasonable concessions will be made for persons with disabilities so that they may perform the essential functions of the position.
MENTAL DEMANDS

On a daily basis must frequently problem solve, make timely and proper emergency decisions, interpret data, organize, speak, resolve conflicts, write, plan, and clearly communicate.
