Qualifications

• Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy or have related law enforcement training.
• Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent preferred.
• Active Military (4-year term) or law enforcement experience acceptable.
• Must possess Florida Class D and Class G Security Officer Licenses.
• Driver's license with clean MVR; ability to operate radios and security equipment.
• Crisis Prevention Training within 90 days of start.

Responsibilities

• Conduct internal and external security patrols on foot or in vehicle to deter crime.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with law enforcement, medical, and fire services.
• Identify irregular conditions and safety hazards and address them.
• Act as first responder to alarms and emergent situations, escorting visitors and protecting information.
• Sound alarms or contact authorities in case of fire or unauthorized entry.
• Monitor entrances/exits and verify authorized access.
• Protect company property during departures and ensure proper removal of items.
• Provide patient escorts and safety escorts as needed.
• Assist and/or transport deceased to morgue.
• Complete shift logs and reports in accordance with policies.
• Investigate accidents/incidents and suspicious activities.

POSITION SUMMARY

To be fully engaged in providing security services to ensure the safety and security of associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.

Primary Accountabilities

• Responsible for internal and external security patrols on foot or in vehicle of facility assigned, including Emergency Department of hospital facility to deter criminal activity and misconduct.
• Responds to all emergencies/disasters which may require the officer to remain on property until the emergency/disaster is terminated. Makes appropriate notifications on campus as directed, coordinates law enforcement, medical and/or fire assistance.
• Proactively watches for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
• Is a first responder for emergency codes, alarms, and other emergent situations to escort visitors and contractors, secure ingress and egress, and protect private information.
• Sounds alarms or calls police/fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
• Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking, or carrying prohibited articles.
• Monitors entrances and exits and permits authorized persons to enter property.
• Observes departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures authorized removal of property is conducted appropriately.
• Conducts patient escorts, patient watches, and provides safety escorts.
• Assists and/or transports deceased to morgue.
• Completes required shift logs and reports; complies with site post orders and Health First policies and procedures.
• Investigates and prepares reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
• Assists associates, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
• Works designated alternate hours and performs other responsibilities as needed.
• Maintains required certifications, licensing, weapon qualifications, and training to achieve professional competency as appropriate for the position.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Must meet at least one of the following education or experience requirements:
• Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy.
• Associate’s degree or above in Criminal Justice.
• Active Military (Four [4] year term of service minimum).
• Law Enforcement experience.
• Serve in Elite Military Forces, Military Police, or Combat Arms.
• Work Experience: None
• Licensure:
• Class “D” Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
• Class “G” Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
• Valid Driver’s License and clean Motor Vehicle Record and maintained.
• Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course OR
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
• Work Experience In Lieu of Education: One (1) year verifiable security officer experience.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.
• Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patients in crisis.
• Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and the roof-top helipad.
• Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
• Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
• Display exceptional customer service and communication skills.

• Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.

Physical Requirements

• Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
• Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
• May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
• May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
