Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island is seeking a Security Officer I to patrol hospital buildings and grounds, oversee access control, and respond to emergencies during the night shift. You will support patients, visitors, staff and property with professional conduct and vigilance.

Responsibilities include incident reporting, safety guidance, and collaboration with fire and police authorities as needed; required licenses and certifications are listed, with equal opportunity employment and salary

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• NYS Security Guard License current and valid.
• CPR and AED certification current and valid.
• CPI certification current and valid.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Greets patients, visitors, and employees in a courteous manner; identifies self by name; responds to inquiries politely and promptly; provides directions as needed; refers matters outside scope of duties to appropriate others.
• Protects and safeguards hospital properties and installations; patrols surrounding areas to ensure orderliness; locks and/or opens doors, secures restricted areas, checks fire hoses, stairwells, etc.; operates and/or monitors security systems (alarms, TV surveillance, etc.); provides security escorts as directed.
• Observes visitors; answers questions; investigates reported losses, suspicious and/or unusual situations in a courteous and efficient manner; escorts unruly or unauthorized personnel from hospital premises; may require restraining skills to subdue violators and/or emotionally disturbed individuals; prepares and submits incident reports to supervisor.
• Explains hospital security policies and procedures to visitors and staff; assists other departments in controlling visitor traffic; maintains package control policy.
• Responds promptly to fire alarms and other emergencies; unlocks doors; directs affected populations to safe areas; assists fire brigade or other authorities in a timely manner.
• Detains law violators; represents the hospital in legal cases as necessary; directs traffic, guards officials, and police ceremonies as assigned; may drive hospital vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current and valid NYS Security Guard License.
• Current and valid CPR and AED certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Current and valid Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI) certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Required Licenses: Crisis Prevention/Intervention-Ct, Security Guard Reg-NYS

Preferred Qualifications: Some college education; Current and valid NYS Driver's License; Basic computer skills including MS Office.
