General Summary : The Security Officer I (SO1) at Seattle Pacific University plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of our campus community. The SO1 is responsible for life safety, identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, and implementing measures to prevent accidents or emergencies. This position requires effective handling of medical emergencies, coordination with first responders, and routine safety inspections.
Job duties include :
- Patrol Duties : Conduct routine campus patrols, inspecting assigned areas to detect security breaches, suspicious activities, property damage, and safety hazards.
- Safety Duties : Perform routine checks of fire systems, respond to alarms, reset elevators during emergencies, conduct fire watch, and ensure fire extinguishers and sprinkler valve systems are functional.
- Incident Response & Reporting : Act promptly in emergencies, coordinate with emergency services, and document all incidents accurately.
- Central Monitoring / Dispatch : Operate as the primary contact at the OSS Security Operations Center, monitor surveillance and security systems, and dispatch officers for incident responses.
- Access Control : Manage access to campus buildings, verify identifications, and monitor physical security systems.
- Policy and Procedure Enforcement : Enforce campus policies, address policy violations in residential areas, and manage parking enforcement.
- Special Events : Assist in crowd control and provide security support during campus events.
- Community Engagement : Foster positive interactions with the campus community, provide customer service, safety escorts, and property retrieval.
- Training : Participate in ongoing training programs and complete required certifications.
- Professional Performance : Maintain high standards of professional behavior, effective communication, and adherence to organizational goals and policies.
Requirements :
- As an SPU staff member, must identify as a Christian, be actively maturing in faith, support the community, and abide by the lifestyle standards of the Christian Community.
- Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience : Four years of experience in the security field.
- Licensure / Certification : Washington Driver's License with good driving record. Must be able to safely drive at night and in adverse conditions.
- Skills : Proficient in operating CCTV systems, two-way radios, and telephones. Must complete advanced first aid and CPR training. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical Requirements : Ability to lift and carry a 35lb extinguisher up 4 flights of stairs, maneuver a fully charged hose line, and perform defense skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Some higher education coursework a plus.
- Two years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of security database applications, video management systems, access control systems, and emergency medical equipment.
