Job summary

University of South Alabama Baldwin County Campus is seeking a Security Officer I to patrol premises, monitor activities, escort staff and students, and respond to alarms and incidents. The role requires vigilance, reporting, and adherence to safety protocols in a university environment.

Full-time position with shift 10:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at Baldwin County Campus; requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license, plus one year of security

• Valid driver's license and driving record acceptable; equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned premises, monitors area traffic, investigates suspicious activities, and reports alarms.
• Registers and directs visitors, checks identifications, and escorts visitors to hosts.
• Responds to calls and alarms and documents incidents in verbal and written formats.
• Monitors security systems to ensure doors are secured and alarms are operational.
• Completes daily shift reports and reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate departments.
• Provides escort services to staff and students as requested to ensure safety.
• Maintains access control with card usage, door issues, and system problems.
• Performs preliminary investigations of security deficiencies or breaches.
• Completes incident reports and coordinates with law enforcement as needed.
• Participates in safety and environmental compliance meetings and maintains key control.

Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position. Essential Functions

• Patrols assigned premises, monitor’s area traffic, investigates suspicious activities, listens for and reports local alarms and may report to county/municipal authorities when necessary.
• Registers and directs visitors, checks for appropriate Identification, and contacts their host for escort.
• Responds to calls and alarms.
• Responds, investigates, and reports through verbal and written format on accidents, illnesses, and incidents.
• Monitors security systems ensuring doors are not forced, left open or otherwise breached.
• Monitors alarms to make sure they are set and operational.
• Completes daily shift report.
• Reports on alarms for freezers, cold rooms, warm rooms, incubator, autoclaves, or mechanical equipment to the Facilities or Building Services Departments.
• Provides escort service to staff and students as requested to ensure safety.
• Documents and reports on the malfunction of equipment In accordance with area policies.
• Monitors the access control system to detect proper card use, door mechanical problems and system problems.
• Performs preliminary investigations of security deficiencies or breaches.
• Completes problem reports for follow-up law enforcement personnel.
• Completes incident reports to comply with facility licensing/accreditation requirements. Identifies witnesses as first respondent to incidents.
• Provides crowd and/or traffic control during unusual/emergency conditions.
• Attends safety and environmental compliance committee meetings.
• Maintains key control by serving as the contact person for keys.
• Performs building safety duties to include AED inspections and first aid kit inspections.
• Contacts Environmental Safety for environmental waste disposal when needed.
• Serves as the contact person for the Fire Marshall during fire drills and fire safety inspections.
• Regular and prompt attendance.
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
• Related duties as required.
