Job summary

Nebraska Furniture Mart (NFM) is seeking a Security Officer to maintain a safe and secure environment, protect property, and assist staff and customers. The role involves welcoming customers, monitoring property, handling incidents, and patrolling facilities to ensure smooth operations.

The position requires flexibility for night/weekend/early-hour shifts, a valid license, and the ability to complete required training within stated time frames. Equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to consistently engage customers in a professional manner.
• Remain flexible to ever changing environments and adapt to different situations.
• Stamina to stand for long periods of time.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Certification in OC foam deployment within one year (Nebraska & Kansas only).
• Complete required training within 90 days of employment.
• Texas-only: obtain non-commissioned security officer license within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers, visitors and vendors and assist them in locating staff.
• Issue electric handicapped shopping carts and assist with wheelchairs and shopping carts.
• Examine and tag property being brought into the stores.
• React to shoplifting incidents, medical emergencies and inclement weather.
• Patrol facilities and parking areas; direct traffic during events; enforce parking regulations.
• Assist customers and staff with vehicle break-downs and lock-outs; retrieve shopping carts.
• Conduct preliminary investigations, audits and security surveys and document findings.

Job Description: Your Piece of the Puzzle

NFM is looking for a Security Officer to provide an authoritative presence to ensure a safe and secure environment, while protecting company property and staff.

Job Duties: A Day in the Life

• Greet: Welcome all customers, visitors and vendors and assist them in locating staff within the stores
• Support: Issue electric handicapped shopping carts to customers and provide assistance in obtaining wheel chairs and shopping carts
• Monitor: Examine and properly tag property being brought into the stores
• Assess: React as necessary and assist in handling any situations – shoplifting, medical emergencies and inclement weather
• Patrol: Watch facilities and parking areas on foot or in a vehicle. Direct traffic during special events or heavy customer traffic, while enforcing parking regulations
• Assist: Help customers and staff with vehicle break-downs and lock-outs and retrieve shopping carts from parking areas
• Report: Conduct preliminary investigations, audits and security surveys and document the findings

• Certification in OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) foam deployment within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification standards (Nebraska & Kansas only)
• Satisfactorily complete NFM Response to Resistance and First Responder training courses within ninety (90) days of employment
• Ability to obtain a non-commissioned security officer license within thirty (30) days of employment (Texas only)
• Ability to work night, weekend and/or early morning hours based on business needsPre-employment screening includes, but isn’t limited to, drug screen and criminal background check
