Job summary

Allied Universal is seeking a Security Officer (Access Point) in Portsmouth, VA, to help safeguard clients across aerospace/defense sectors. The role focuses on access control, credential verification, and maintaining a secure, welcoming environment.

This full-time position pays $18.50 per hour. Responsibilities include monitoring systems, handling incidents, and patrolling the facility perimeter while delivering outstanding customer service.

Qualifications

• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
• A Guard Card or license is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.

Responsibilities

• Provide access-control procedures for personnel, visitors, and contractors.
• Verify identification, credentials, visitor authorizations, and access permissions before entry.
• Monitor access-control systems, alarms, cameras, and entry points; document irregularities and report concerns.

As an Access Control Officer supporting an aerospace and defense location, you will monitor access points, verify credentials, manage visitor entry, and conduct routine patrols to help deter security-related incidents. Job Schedule:

• Mon 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM
• Tue 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM
• Fri 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM
• Sat 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM
• Sun 10:00 PM - 06:00 AM

What You'll Do:

• Provide customer service to personnel, visitors, and contractors by carrying out access-control procedures, site-specific policies, and when appropriate, emergency response activities at an aerospace and defense location.
• Verify identification, credentials, visitor authorizations, and access permissions before permitting entry to restricted areas.
• Monitor access-control systems, alarms, cameras, and entry points; document irregularities and report access-related concerns according to site procedures.
• Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, coordinating with appropriate site contacts and emergency responders as needed.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of entry points, restricted areas, and the facility perimeter to help deter unauthorized access.

Minimum Requirements:

• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
• A Guard Card or license is preferred.
• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
