Job summary

Westfields Hospital is hiring a casual Security Officer to join our team. The Security Officer is responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and secure environment of the patients, visitors and staff of Westfields Hospital & Clinic.

Security Officers provide a variety of services ranging from routine patrols, emergency response public assistance, report writing, investigative services and other duties as deemed necessary by the Manager, Security Operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid, unrestricted driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Patrol all areas of the hospital and off-site properties daily, inspecting for hazards.
• Respond to fire alarms and disaster alerts; assist to maintain a safe environment.
• Provide safety escorts; unlocks/lockups and customer service to staff, patients and visitors.
• Complete incident reports and follow-up; communicate updates to managers as needed.
• Keep accurate shift documentation and payroll sign-in; submit reports timely.
• Register patients entering the emergency department and enter data into the EMR.
• Perform other duties as assigned and support age-specific patient safety needs.
• Maintain a culture of patient safety and report safety events.

Security Officers provide a variety of services ranging from routine patrols, emergency response public assistance, report writing, investigative services and other duties as deemed necessary by the Manager, Security Operations.

WORK SCHEDULE

Casual position is to assist in covering vacation and sick calls.

Days and shifts vary depending on department need

Shifts are 6:00am-6:00pm or 6:00pm-6:00am

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid, unrestricted driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• One year experience working in security, Law Enforcement, Military or Mental Health.
• Post high school education in the field of law enforcement.
• Healthcare security experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• 1. Patrol all areas of the hospital (internal and external) and any off-site properties owned and/or operated by Westfields Hospital & Clinic on a daily basis
  • Performs Department Rounds according to the department policy.
  • Patrols all public areas, stairwells, conference rooms, bathrooms and waiting areas routinely.
  • Performs inspections for all parking lots and ramps associated with the organization.
  • Inspects departments routinely to identify potential safety hazards.

• 2. Respond to the emergency needs of the organization and its occupants when necessary
  • Responds to all fire alarms according to the organization's policy.
  • Responds to disaster alerts to assist and maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Responds to urgent requests from all departments.

• 3. Respond to routing requests of all departments of Westfields Hospital & Clinic.
  • Performs safety escorts to staff and visitors upon request.
  • Provides assistance to staff, visitors and patients.
  • Performs unlocks and lockups at the request of individuals and departments.
  • Provides appropriate customer service to all staff, patients and visitors.

• 4. Report and investigate all incidents
  • Responds to resolve matters that threaten the safety of staff, visitors and patients.
  • Completes appropriate reports and submits all documentation within the scheduled shift.
  • Investigates incidents and completes follow up as necessary
  • Communicates information to departments/managers about incidents when necessary.

• 5. Keep accurate documentation of all events during a scheduled shift.
  • Accurately signs in for payroll
  • Completes and submits all reports accurately and timely

• 6. Responsible for quick registration for patients entering the emergency department.
  • Obtain minimal necessary patient demographics such as name, birthdate, address and phone number
  • Enter into the EMR.

• 7. Completes all other duties as assigned.

• 8. Understands or is able to seek out assistance in dealing with specific age groups.
