St. Croix Health is looking for a Casual Security Officer to join our team. Availability to work both day and night 12-hour shifts.Day Shift 6 PM - 6 AM, Night Shift 6 PM - 6 AM, including weekdays and weekendsThe Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff by patrolling and monitoring the healthcare center campus and exterior grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides security presence on Healthcare Center Campus and exterior grounds
- Provides physical on-site uniformed security presence primarily to the Emergency Department (ED), but also to all areas of the healthcare center campus and exterior grounds
- Conducts rounding of the healthcare center and exterior grounds
2. Assists departments with delivering great patient care
- Assist Emergency Department staff and law enforcement as needed. This can include monitoring or securing patients brought for treatment or other medical needs
- Assist with patient transports within the healthcare center campus, restraining or controlling patients as directed, transporting biological samples to lab, and/or cleaning of Emergency Department patient rooms as needed.
- Assist visitors with unlocking vehicles, assisting patients and guests into or out of vehicles, providing wheelchairs when needed and any other customer service need
- Assist ambulance crews with loading and unloading patients and securing patient and other medical property
3. Manages facility security
- Respond to fire and other emergency alarms and calls
- Secures the helicopter landing pad or zone
- Answers alarms and investigates disturbances
- Rounding of healthcare campus premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows and gates
- Work as Hospital Switchboard during specified hours of the day
4. Maintains building security management
- Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, or machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering
- Records and investigates security-related incidents and works closely with local public safety agencies for incidents requiring law enforcement involvement.
5. Conducts staff trainings for various departments
- Assists with staff training and exercises for facility evacuation, HazMat, and decontamination
6. Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Education & Licensure:
- High school diploma required
- Valid state driver's license required
Experience:
- One year of prior experience in customer service or healthcare field preferred.
Competencies: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgement
- Ability to work closely with other staff in a professional manner
- Ability to understand and follow both written and verbal directives
- Thorough understanding of hospital procedures, emergency systems and equipment
- Observation skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements:
- Walk frequently around the medical center during shifts
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
