Job summary

KCKPD is seeking a Security Officer, Armed to protect Unified Government buildings, staff and the public in Kansas City, KS. You will screen entrants, monitor detectors, and patrol facilities, reporting professionally and testifying when required.

This role requires handling of firearms and taser if needed, availability for non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays, and completion of required security and weapon qualifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent education/experience.
• Must pass basic security course and semi-annual weapons qualifications.
• Course involves handcuffing, responding to active threats and defensive tactics.
• Must qualify with Taser and pass OC qualification.

Duties include checking people entering facilities, monitoring metal detectors, and patrolling buildings. Construct professional reports and testify in court, as needed. Utilize varying pieces of equipment including fire alarms, computers, panic alarms and elevators. Must be able to effectively use firearms and taser, if necessary. This position is subject to work non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays.**QUALIFICATIONS:**High School Diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and 18 years of age. Must be able to pass basic security course and pass semi-annual weapons qualifications. Course involves handcuffing, responding to active threats and defensive tactics. Must qualify with a Conducted Electrical Weapon (Taser) and pass OC qualification. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including those pertaining to search and seizure, as well as knowledge in security procedures, methods, and protocol.
