Site-Based Security Officer
Location: Kansas City, Missouri

Salary: G01 starting at $19.00 per hour
Reports To: Site Based First Line Security Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Responsibilities
- Preserve the peace, protect District property, prevent criminal acts, and apprehend violators.
- Enforce District policies, the Student Handbook, and the Security Department’s Operations Manual.
- Patrol inside and outside assigned schools, monitor premises.
- Act under the direction of the school’s principal for day‑to‑day activities but remain under the Safety & Security Department.
- Maintain professionalism and objective judgment under stress.
- Use appropriate force levels following departmental policies.
- Communicate verbally, in body language, and in writing; submit clear, concise reports.
- Familiarize with district policies, state and local laws, and ordinances.
- Attend required in‑service training and accept transfers as needed.
- Maintain and clean department‑issued equipment and answer dispatch calls via cell phones, radios, and other communication modes.
- Establish working relationships with law‑enforcement agencies and security organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
- Pass the Safety & Security Department pre‑hire multiple‑choice test and oral interview.
- Pass the Kansas City Public Schools pre‑employment drug screen (post‑accident and reasonable suspicion screens may be required).
- Pass the pre‑employment physical abilities test (re‑testing may be required after illness or injury).
- Pass the pre‑employment psychological exam.
- Obtain certificates of completion for IS‑100.C – Introduction to the Incident Command System and IS‑700.B – Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Qualify for and maintain a Private Officers’ Commission from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department; annual drug screen when renewing the commission.
- Be insurable with the district insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous law enforcement and security experience.
- Experience working with juveniles in an academic environment.
Physical Demands
Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the use of hands and fingers. Must walk, run, and climb stairs in all weather. Must lift up to 50 lb and be able to drive a motor vehicle during the day or night. Visual ability must be 20/20 or correctable. Must pass the pre‑employment physical abilities test.
