Job summary

St. Louis County is hiring Security Officers to perform entry-level security work protecting people and property on a 24/7 basis. Work includes patrols, incident reporting, and responding to emergencies under supervision, with shifts that may include nights and weekends.

Applicants should be at least 21, able to pass pre-employment drug guidelines, and meet education requirements. The role demands alertness, good judgment, and the ability to communicate clearly with the public and staff.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of modern security practices and first aid principles.
• Understanding of applicable laws and ordinances.
• Ability to wear and use issued uniforms and equipment as required.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned facility on foot to protect people and property from vandalism, arson, prowlers and related risks.
• Inspects doors, windows, safety hazards and equipment for faults.
• Responds to emergency calls including accidents, fires and hostage situations.
• Investigates suspected crimes on the premises and reports findings.
• Assists the public and employees by answering questions and directing to locations.
• Maintains logs and communicates incidents to the supervisor.
• Detains individuals as needed under police authority.
• Operates two-way radio and supports medical examiner and investigators when required.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.
