Job summary

St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center–North, part of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, seeks a Security Officer to ensure safety for clients and staff.

Shift options include 1st and 2nd shifts with weekends off, on-site security duties, and a focus on prevention and orderly conduct. Responsibilities include patrolling, incident reporting, searches, traffic control, fire prevention, and vehicle dispatch.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One+ years of security experience in state, military, or mental health facilities preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular rounds throughout the facility to observe demeanor of staff, clients, and visitors.
• Investigate acts of vandalism or theft and coordinate with law enforcement when needed.
• Prepare reports on infractions, laws, and rules occurring on the grounds or in the building.
• Direct and control traffic in parking areas and assist with security procedures training.
• Assist in organizing searches when residents walk away or escape and aid distressed individuals.
• Respond to fire alarms and conduct fire prevention inspections.
• Dispatch facility vehicles and arrange repairs as needed; monitor vehicle readiness.

St. Louis Forensic Treatment Center-North provides specialized care for clients diagnosedwith mental illness. We are looking for a Security Officer to ensure that our facility, includingclients and staff, remain safe and undisturbed.

Responsibilities:

• Conductregularroundsthroughoutthefacilityand/orgroundsobservingthedemeanor of public, employees, residents or clients
• Takesnecessaryactiontoensurethatproperconductisfollowed
• Investigatesactsofvandalismortheftandworkscloselywithlawenforcementofficials on investigations as needed
• Preparesreportsofinfractionsoflaws,regulationsand/orrulesthatoccuronthe grounds or within the building
• Reportsquestionableconductofemployees,residents,clientsorthepublictoan immediate supervisor or other administrator
• Responsetoroutinequestionsandprovidesdirectionstothepublic
• Directsandcontrolstrafficatparkinglotsofpublicbuildings/facilities.Mayinclude installing traffic signs around emergency areas
• Assistsinimplementingtrainingprogramsinvolvingsecurityprocedures
• Assistsinorganizingandconductingsearcheswhenresidents/clientswalkawayor escape. Also assisting with distressed residents/clients
• Takesnecessaryactioninremovingunrulyindividualsordetainingthemuntilproper authorities arrive
• Dispatchesfacilityvehicles;receivesreportsofdifficultieswithvehiclesandarrangesfor repairs and also checks oil/gas to ensure readiness for the next use
• Transportsstaff,residents/clientsand/orsuspectsas needed
• Assistsotherfacilitypersonnelinmaintainingsecurityandensuringthatnecessary precautionary measures are taken for the protection of individuals and property
• Conductsfirepreventioninspectionsand respondstoallfire alarms
• Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives supervisionfromahigherlevelSecurityOfficerorotherdesignatedadministrative supervisor
• Performsotherrelatedworkasassigned

Eligibility:

• Possessionofahighschooldiplomaorproofofhighschoolequivalency
• One or more years of experience as a Security Guard with the State of Missouri, or experience in military, civilian security, law enforcement or experience within an intermediate/maximumsecuritymentalhealthfacilityperformingsecurityfunctions
• Possessavaliddriver’slicense
