UPMC seeks a dedicated security officer to help maintain a safe, secure environment across its hospitals and surrounding grounds. You will patrol properties, monitor alarms, and respond swiftly to emergencies while engaging with patients, visitors, and staff in a professional manner.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage, de-escalate, and resolve potentially confrontational situations involving individuals from diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  • Candidates must exhibit the psychological resilience and sound judgment necessary to perform effectively in high-stress, fast-paced, and potentially dangerous environments. Basic physical fitness is required to meet the demands of the role, including full-body mobility, strength, endurance, and the ability to respond promptly to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
  • Must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • All applicants are subject to a comprehensive background investigation and criminal record check. Candidates must be available to work all shifts as required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Responsibilities

  • Patrol hospitals, buildings, parking areas, and surrounding grounds to help prevent issues and identify security concerns.
  • Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarm systems and respond quickly to emergencies and incidents.
  • Collaborate with UPMC Police Officers and local law enforcement when needed.
  • Provide friendly, professional assistance to patients, families, visitors and staff.
  • Keep accurate records of incidents, observations, and daily security activities in line with guidelines.

Job description

Helps create a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff, and anyone on or around UPMC properties. Maintains a visible presence by regularly patrolling hospitals, buildings, parking areas, and surrounding grounds to help prevent issues, identify security concerns, and support overall security. Monitors security, fire, and environmental alarm systems and responds quickly to emergencies, incidents, conflicts, and other unexpected situations. Partners with UPMC Police Officers and local law enforcement when needed to address security concerns. Provides friendly, professional assistance to patients, families, visitors, and staff while using sound judgment and strong customer service skills. Keeps accurate records of incidents, observations, and daily security activities in line with organizational guidelines.
