Job summary

The Allen County Public Library is seeking a Full-Time Security Officer to support our downtown Main Library on second shift. You will help ensure patron, staff, and facility safety while fostering a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.

Ideal candidates are observant, calm under pressure, and committed to people-first service, making a daily community impact.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong observation and situational awareness.
• Clear, professional communication and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Reliability and integrity with a calm demeanor under pressure.
• Experience in security, public safety, or customer-facing environments preferred.
• Familiarity with basic surveillance or security technology is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the library building, grounds, and activities to ensure a safe environment.
• Conduct routine patrols and maintain visible security presence.
• Respond to incidents, emergencies, and calls for assistance.
• Enforce library policies with professionalism and respect.
• Complete incident reports and documentation accurately and timely.
• Collaborate closely with staff to support a welcoming, inclusive space for all patrons.

This is a primarily 2nd shift position. The schedule for this role is Monday - Thursday 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM, Friday & Saturday 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM, and Sunday 10:30 AM - 6:30 PM (40 hours per week with a rotating weekend schedule)
