Job summary

Illinois Central College is seeking a Security Officer to help protect persons and property on the East Peoria Campus. The role will be scheduled for 3rd shift and requires a commitment to 24/7 coverage as needed.

The position emphasizes patrols, incident reporting, and rapid response to emergencies, with duties aligned to state statutes and college policies. Candidates should have a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and prior security or related experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid driver's license and insurability in operating college vehicles.
• Experience working in a security, law enforcement, military, customer service, education, or related field.
• Meets minimum requirements for hire as established under the Illinois Public Community College Act, (110 ILCS 805/3-42.1).
• Successful completion of Illinois Central College Police Department Field Training Program.
• Maintain composure under stressful and adverse conditions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

• Patrol, inspect, and secure campus buildings and grounds.
• Investigate and report incidents and unusual conditions relating to the safety of the campus community.
• Respond immediately to emergency situations and take appropriate action to protect life and property.
• Perform actions necessary to ensure the safety and security of the campus and persons on the campus, in compliance with Illinois Compiled Statutes 720 ILCS 5/7-1 and 720 ILCS 5/7-3.
• Inspect and assist in the testing of fire control and alarm systems.
• Maintain effective working relationships with local police, fire and emergency services.
• Enforce college behavioral and parking regulations.
• Direct and control traffic and provide crowd control and security during special events and as required.
• Investigate and report complaints and traffic crashes.
• Work shifts as assigned to provide daily 24-hour service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Campus Security Officer is primarily responsible for protecting persons and property to provide a safe and secure campus environment. This position will be located on the East Peoria campus and will be scheduled for 3rd shift. Compensation for the Security Officer is $19.94-22.43/hour.

Preferred Qualifications

• College degree in law enforcement, criminal justice or related field.
• Advanced security or law enforcement training.
